My practice revolves around exploring the intersections in my Korean and Jewish identity while creating cyborg traditional Korean ceramics, performing, and printmaking. Moving forward I would like to be able to achieve similar clarity in concepts of the diaspora and high use of technique in my work as these artists. While attending the residency Penland in 2017, I revisited printmaking. I explored how the intersections of the manual process of printmaking and the digital platform of social media could create a sense of community. I’m interested in creating prints that no longer just exist in the fine arts world as a means to connect and exchange information about the singular identity in the larger community. Printmaking is a scalable distribution method that still holds the idea of preciousness. Although multiple prints are made creating higher accessibility, the limited number of prints emphasizes the uniqueness of each.
After falling in love with printmaking in my Sophomore year of High School I attended my Junior and Senior years at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and was more interested in sculpture such as using wood sculptures to create installations for my performances. I use archetypes in clothing and objects in my performances to create a conversation about the subversive nature of being a minority within a minority.
